Very often street and school environment provokes teens to try some drug. The consequences are often the same - drug addiction. The majority of drugs are seriously addictive, besides, those who suggest "playing" with some substance, pursue their own ends. Timely reaction to your child's problems may save his or her life. So how can you know that your teen has drug abuse problem? Take some time to observe your child. If you see the following symptoms persistent during month, then you must seek the consultation of physician.
- fatigue;
- repeated health complaints;
- red and glazed eyes;
- lasting cough;
- abrupt changes in school attendance, grades, discipline;
- dramatic changes in appearance (clothing, body piercing, tattoos) accompanied by changes in behavior;
- changes peer group and avoids introducing new friends to family;
- unusual borrowing of money from friends, school-mates or parents;
- stealing small items from home or school;
- significant change in how they express themselves (more agitated than usual; more depressed than usual; confused speech; unreasonable);
- destructive toward self, others, or property;
- threatening suicide;
- bizarre behavior (temper tantrums; rambling speech; paranoid);
- low self-esteem;
- strange possessions, unpleasant smells from clothes.
If you notice the presence of at least some of these symptoms, you should seek a consultation of a specialist. Your child might need urgent outside help.
